Flowers and a festival

Aug 19, 2011 12:13

I'm ignoring the fact that we're already eating windfall apples and that I could see my breath when I cycled to work this morning:  here's a summer flower post (roses this week after rain - well, this is England) and a glimpse of the new arrival for the Gackt gallery (poster promoting the Joetsu Uesugi Kenshin festival in which Gackt is again appearing as the 16thC warlord on 21 August).

The new Gackt arrival has taken his place on one of the walls dedicated to large scale Gackt coverage.  This wall is on the landing of the stairs, so nobody gets to use the bathroom without a full opportunity for worship.  In the new poster, Gackt is eye-balling the enemy across the river and I'm surprised that the water hasn't frozen over!

The roses in my garden are now at the height of their second flowering.  Here are two favourites (I'm sorry that I can't add the perfume for you!).  First, a variety called Arthur Bell which has deep green leaves.

Second, an old-fashioned tight-furled variety called English Garden - together with a visitor.

The smell of the roses after the rain is extraordinary - much more attractive than in the sunshine for some reason.  Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed this little stroll through my own English garden.
