Chinese food and fresh summer fruit

I've been working in London - not particularly enjoyable but there is one advantage: click below the strawberries to find out!

My route home takes me through Chinatown where I can stop at the Kowloon café, a traditional bakery, and buy:

- lotus balls (the round things covered in sesame seeds - basically deep-fried dough stuffed with lotus paste)

- coconut tart (my favourite - but I need to get one for my mum too or Face The Consequences)

- daan tart (literally egg tart but more like custard - my mum's favourite but I don't like them)

- loh mai gai (impossible to translate sensibly but it's sticky rice mixed with chestnut, mushroom and red bean and then wrapped into a triangular parcel in flavoursome pandan leaves.  Yummy but filling so my mum and I can share one)

And the strawberries?  At the weekend, I went to a friend's art exhibition (it's our national "art weeks" season when studios are open to the public - and a lot of art gets bought as a result) which just happened to be next to a Pick Your Own fruit farm.  So I did Pick My Own (strawberries and raspberries).  And then I Ate My Own!  Delicious.  Sorry the photo doesn't have any flavour!
