Favorite Scenes

I love the way Wong Kar Wai uses the camera - the way it moves, the fantastic angles it catches. His use of smoke and rain adds a kind of dreamy effect to his works of romantic melancholia. Or melancholic romanticism. His is the best of the three segments on Eros. Entitled "The Hand", it's a story of a young tailor's apprentice who falls for a woman whom he lovingly creates clothes for. Their first meeting is quite intense and I liked what the woman told the young apprentice right before she seduces him: “Never touched a woman before, have you? Then how can you be a tailor? You’ll be touching many women.” Gong Li is breathtaking as the seductive courtesan. I believe it is the most complete of the three even if the running time is just below forty minutes. My favorite scene is the last one where the two almost-lovers make love using their hands. Another wonderful shot that I truly loved is when the woman meets her lover and none of their faces were caught by the ever-moving camera.
