It really is too bad about Hellcats, I honestly thought this was very good as far as teen shows out there go. There were many different friendships, which I liked. Marti, Savannah, Alice, Lewis and Dan all had families with different dynamics which were shown to be important to them. And some of them even went to class sometimes! I don't think anyone on Gossip Girl showed up for any class in all the episodes I watched this season. I enjoyed Alice's relationship with her dad and Kelly, I think was her name, too. I liked how they developed Alice from standard bitch to someone to whom cheerleading was enormously important. I loved that episode during the Travis plot where the way she tries to stop Marti from telling about what's his name is showing her the culture and rituals of cheerleading. It would have been fun to see a season of her as captain. A real shame the ratings slipped so much. There was talk for a while about how the CW would probably only renew one of either Nikita or Hellcats, and at the time, I thought I would have preferred Nikita, because it clearly was only beginning to tell its story and because I felt like canceling would be a waste of Maggie Q and Lyndsy Fonseca. But now, even though I now the ratings are what really mattered, I wish it had been Hellcats. I just like these people more.
Anyway. That was long.
I know networks do this, but I thought these were pretty great! It's not like it's a show where continuity is so important, though, so it hasn't detracted from my enjoyment any. I hope it continues to improve on its second season. But I honestly wish they would put Elisha Cuthbert in a How To Act in Sitcoms class. She's so... contained in everything she does. I know she's not getting recast, so I wish she would get better, or that they would start writing more to her strengths. Which I don't know what they are, personally, but she must have some. Being kidnapped? /24 joke
