I just got Ash's new album through the post. I'm only up to track nine, but I'm very impressed. I really like their last album, but it must be said that there was something lacking - but this is a return to form. It's very nearly as good as Free All Angels. The lyrics are an improvement too - it's no longer a case of just reaching for the rhyming dictionary and hoping for the best, it seems. The production is a bit different too - no doubt someone who knows about such matters could explain how. Suffice it to say, the production is more varied - Ash (on their last three albums anyway) have tended to have a straightforward split between ballads and 'faster' songs. On this album, it's more interesting - 'Dark and Stormy' is totally different to 'I Started a Fire', for instance, but it's much more than simply upping or lowering the tempo; the whole mood of the song is different. I don't know - basically, I reall like it.
In other news, I've been on holiday - one week in Cardiganshire with some people off my MA course. We did little and drank lots. It was fun. Then I went to North Wales with Chris. We drank little and did lots. It was also fun.
That really is all there is to it.
Then Truck got cancelled, which was shit, but roll on September.
