6 weeks into doctoring. Thoughts?
Not exactly what I'd thought it'd be. It's like medical student +. People ask you stuff, but they really don't expect you to come up with an intelligent answer. And when you do, you get a doggie treat.
I watched the first episode of Scrubs the night before I started my medicine wards month at the VA. It was pretty accurate. I had an attending named Kelso, and another resident is named Turk (sadly, not as brown...). Nurses asked me stuff that I had no idea what the answer was but I could keep a straight face and make something up....UNLIKE MY CO-INTERN.
Seriously, I thought he was going to cry halfway through the first day. He begged me to take back to back admissions because he wasn't sure if he could "take it." I patted him on the back. Called him "bro" and told him it'd be ok. And eventually it was.
I'm still amazed that when I say "This should be like this." Nurses say, "ok" and do it (well, not at the VA....never at the VA). Medical students ask me for advice and people keep calling me doctor which still embarrasses me to no end. The guy who stayed at the holiday inn express probably has as much experience as I do.
I'm the guy who used to pose lego figures drinking and post them on the internet. I got people across the country to take pictures with McDonald's employees (awesome). And now I give sound/suspect medical advice.
balls yeah!
