The link to the contest is:
http://tv.msn.com/nytvf/contest/pitchHe is listed under “Duncan: Leave it to Sulu”.
Actually watching the pitch is not necessary to vote.
In order to see the video, you should be running Internet Explorer, and using a PC- macs do not work, unless you’re running something called “boot camp”.
Voting runs today (Wednesday the 23rd) through Friday the 25th)
12 a.m. - 12 a.m. PST (3 a.m. - 3 a.m. EST). Please vote as soon as possible!
The finalists will pitch to a celebrity panel of executives at the 2006 NYTF, and then the winner will get an $8,000 network TV pilot production deal. This is very exciting, so please vote!
The pitch: Hikaru Sulu, (former helmsman of the starship Enterprise from Star Trek: The Original Series) bored with charting gaseous anomalies in the Delta Quadrant, takes a sabbatical from StarFleet to open a bar called “Sulu’s Place” in his hometown of San Francisco, just around the corner from Starfleet.
The bartender is a sexy and snarky green-skinned Orion woman named S’nadrissa (or “Sandy”, since no one can pronounce her real name), who was trained to be a pleasure slave dancer until it was discovered that she has two left feet, and her erotic terpsichorean powers have no effect. The bouncer is Proteus Okona, a roguish but good-hearted human, who has an unrequited crush on Sandy, and is always trying to impress her.
Sulu lives above the bar with his son Hiro, who, to spite his father, is attending UC Berkeley instead of Starfleet Academy. Sulu’s grown daughter, Lieutenant Demora Sulu, currently serving on the Enterprise-B, calls once a week to check in.
Regular patrons of the bar include Sulu’s old friend Doctor Chapel (also from the original series), who is teaching medicine at Starfleet Academy, and one of her students, BuFar, a homosexual half-Romulan, half-Vulcan, who has an unrequited crush on Proteus, the bouncer.
Next door is Randall “Spider” Ghandi’s very popular Holosuite Emporium; Randall comes into the bar frequently, as Chapel and Hiro are some of his best customers.
This will be the first Star Trek series set entirely on Earth in a non-military, non-Starfleet environment, and will be the first Trek series to feature a regular homosexual character.
It’ll be a groundbreaking and entertaining show.
