bravery, courage, self-discipline
what is it this earth lacks?
i think about my life and my relationships i have with other people... what is solid? what is tangible?
sometimes i wonder if everyone is missing the same thing--that thing that allows us to look at life, i mean really look at each other in the eye, unafraid, and without judgment-- and accept what is there and who we are. are we all so deceived?
beauty, patience, kindness
sometimes i wonder if we all know exactly what we're missing and in great detail, but we've never put it in words so it remains aloof, in our peripheral. and it's so much easier just to meet the status quo, because if people got those tangible, solid things then they would be no good in the world that everyone else lives in. no good in the world that says give only in the measure that you receive and even then when you deem the person worthy of your giving. in a world that says 'me first' and 'what's mine is mine', and 'take now, ask questions later'. these precepts are disguised well, though. as concepts such as 'protect yourself', 'figure out what you want', 'take what is yours'. none of these are bad. but they become self-destructive and isolating when not accompanied by ideas such as mercy, or forgiveness. what if a person displayed integrity, selflessness, or mercy? people today scoff at such ideas and casually move along. they are called 'realists'.
honesty, faithfulness, honor
what is so real about a world steeped in the hopelessness of circumstance? we simply say 'that is that', those worthy of it find wealth and power, and those that are not are doomed to live their days on the underside of a culture that has declared them fit for no more than what their hands can reach.
love, trust, belief
there are so many good things we have concepts of in this culture and see them so rarely acted out. we see them in movies and in fairy tales, in our folklore and mythology, but those things are always merely to be admired--such as a trophy on a wall, or a sunrise. something to be marveled at or entertained by, but never emulated. never sought after or attainable. we look at the man in the movies that, against all odds and for no reason risks his own life for a concept such as freedom, or honor, or love, and he ends loosing his life, or even worse, living to be rewarded with his dream. as a people do these movies inspire us? sure, to spend fifteen dollars adding it to our DVD collection or to buy the soundtrack. never to be that person. the person that every one laughs and scoffs at the entire movie. the one who is alone and isolated because of his/her beliefs. this person sometimes becomes a leader in their beliefs, but still remains alone because usually it is they and they alone that carry the dream.
where are the people of integrity? where are the honorable?
where are those afraid to loose their life but willing to do so all the same for hope?
who is there to never leave a man behind?
who will take a bullet for a friend?
will you let me? will you let me be that person for you?
