Doctor Who Fic Recs #1 (Variety)
I know there aren't many Who people on my f-list right now, but I've been reading Who fic for about five months now, so I thought I'd rec some of my favorites. These are all on Teaspoon and are the appropriate for mostly everyone fics.
All About Rose (Sorta):
Really Wild Things by Cavalorn
What/Why: It's a alt!Nine reunites Rose and the Doctor reunion fic, probably my favorite reunion fic. Sort of Douglas Adams-esque and not schmoopy at all.
from up here you can barely see the ground by livii: "Making it in the new world, with extensive documentary and military backup." (Rose/alt!verse son of Benton, alt!Sarah Jane, Mickey, Jake)
Why: I like the fics where Rose grows up and moves on, or at least works on moving on, and this is one of those. One-shot.
New Who Meets Old:
Thrown Away by Clocketpatch : "Jack isn't the first companion to be left in an awkward situation. Peri is stuck on an alien world trying (and failling) to get on with her life after being left for dead by the Doctor. Jack meanwhile is running for his life as the past, present, Torchwood, and a squad of angry androids follow in fast pursuit." Complete.
…and it's sequel Holes in the Fabric by Clocketpatch
"Jack, Peri and Yrcanos are headed for Earth, but the Time Agency is in hot pursuit. There's also the matter of the man with the pool. Who is he and what is his connection to Jack and Peri?" Currently a WIP.
What/Why: These stories are a part of what appears to be a series involving Jack running into abandoned companions of the Doctor. It's a clever idea and I think Peri's characterization is spot on.
And something clever:
The Slow Path, or Two and a Half Centuries in Two and a Half Days by Amy Wolf
What/Why: AU from Girl in the Fireplace. The Doctor isn't able to get back to the ship in the 51st century, and so lives on the slow path until he makes it back to Rose. So very clever. The best part is 1956. You'll see why.
