Doctor Who Fic Recs #4
I could tell you about my no good, very bad week, or I could rec Doctor Who fics. I think I know which you would enjoy more.
The Man With No Name by Frostfyre.
Why: I love Firefly and I love Doctor Who and luckily the two mesh together nicely. Ten meets up with the crew of Serenity between losing Rose and meeting Martha and hijinks ensue. Marvelous Mal voice for the Firefly fen. I enjoyed reading this one. It was long and entertaining, which is all I need in a fanfic most days.
Behind Closed Doors by ZephyrHawk.
Summary (sort of): "This story started off as a horribly bitter companion piece to Journey’s End. But as often occurs with the stories I write, it got away from me a little bit, and by the time I was halfway finished, I realized it wasn’t quite as bitter anymore. And neither was I."
Why: I felt the same way after I read this fic. It's Rose and the duplicate Doctor trying to make things work in Pete's World, and although the market is basically glutted on this kind of fic, so far it's my favorite, and IMO, the best. It's often hard for me to express why I like something, and with this one I think it's because it's honest and well written and well paced. And the human Doctor's list of things to tell the Time Lord Doctor adds just the right touch.
Of Monsters by rosa-acicularis
Summary:"How bad would the thing in the dark have to be," he says, "to scare a girl like Rose Tyler?"
Why: This the the sequel to Do I Twist, Do I Fold? which I reced way back when, and Good Night. Remember that "I can see the whole of time" thing back in season 1? Yeah, mix in the Master and some truly chilling changes in Rose, and well, this is why I am so upset that the Bad Wolf storyline just... fizzled out. There were so many interesting places to take it that didn't involve Mary Sue-ing Rose. It's dark of course, but if you're on my f-list, you know how I like the dark. And let me bestow my high praise on this fic: I wish I had thought of it first.
