HEARTBROKEN
I was at Thai Boat today ordering some pad-see-yew to go with Jeff and there was a poster on the wall listing concert dates and acts for Downtown Brew, SLO's local bar/music venue. Nothing caught my eye until I saw....
THE WEAKERTHANS.
AT DOWNTOWN BREW. IN SLO. THREE MINUTES FROM MY APARTMENT. HERE. OMFG
.....except the show was July 20th, TWO FREAKING WEEKS AGO.
how did I not know about this?! It's not like I obsessively follow bands to see when they're playing near me (which is almost never, I was shocked to see Death Cab at Cal Poly's Rec Center, and Augustana last year by Dexter Lawn) but I count on word of mouth, Facebook, and seeing posters. Preferably before the date of the show. And The Weakerthans are a pretty big indie band, similar in stature to Arcade Fire and The Decemberists.
I am so depressed. The Weakerthans are one of my favorite bands, absolutely. Reconstruction Site is a brilliant album, and Left and Leaving too. I'd have killed to hear them live.
I need to hit up Viren and see how that time machine of his is coming along :P
