Strong-arm man

In my silly little brain I like to imagine that all the members of Sigur Ros live together in a big house while the members of Amina live in the granny flat in the back garden and they all have crumpets and tea on Sunday afternoons and sometimes Bjork comes over for a visit and they all watch cartoons together.

So! Busy day at work! Busy busy busy. And it was a Sunday! Sunday is the day I use for tiding up properly (after Saturday the shop is a mess!) because Sundays are always slow but not today!

But I did get most of it done, which is good. I'm going to have to start putting stuff back out myself after people try it on I think. I started letting people put clothes back out themselves, appreciating the effort, but it's so much work to go 'round at the end of it all and put it to rights! Clothes inside out, back to front, falling off their hangers, on the ground and the one thing I hate most of all - back to front coat hangers!

I don't think I've mentioned how much I hate a back to front coat hanger before, but I do! And after years and years of having to turn coat hangers right way round (possibly hundreds of thousands of times!) I have a theory as to why people do this.

Now it'll probably sound a bit silly, especially if you've never worked in a clothing store, but stay with me on this one. See, when you go to put a coat hanger right way round on a rack, the action possibly appears a bit sissy. Go on, pretend you're putting a coat hanger on a rack properly. Kinda sissy, huh? It's a movement that is downward, with a bit of a flick in the wrist. However, if you go to put a coat hanger on a rack the wrong way round, you'll notice that the movement is up upward and towards your body. Kind of like making a strong arm action or something. Way more tough.

So my theory is that it is out of a subconscious need to appear tough and confident that customers put coat hangers back the wrong way round! Pretty neat theory, huh? It doesn't really make it any less annoying though.
