So, did the creatures really exist?

Why did he go after Ivy???

I thought him and Ivy were siblings in the beginning of the movie..

Naw. He was the son of one of the couples that started the colony.

The creatures never existed. There were rumours of the creatures in history books (that's what Ivy's father said) so that's where they got the idea for them. I don't really know why he went after Ivy; I figured it was because he loved her (thus his nearly killing Joaquin Phoenix) and was just playing around, assuming that she was running away for fun and he was chasing her.
