Until today, my life was fairly exciting and busy. This past weekend, I went to Amicalola State Park (in GA) for the annual Neuroscience Program Retreat. Friday night was miserable, for it rained all night, and I got wet. I was in a three-person tent with three other people, which made it rather cramped. My pillow got soaked. It sucked. Saturday was much better, however. The program fed us, the students, put us up, gave us beer and wine to drink, and told us a bit about life as a scientist. I had a bit to drink, so that made it more fun. I also went hiking and saw the waterfall, which supposedly is the highest waterfall on this side of the Mississippi. It was pretty, but it could have been prettier if the weather had been nicer.
I received a car last Friday. Thank you, parentals! It's a Ford Taurus. It's white. It moves. I love it.
My first test of graduate school was yesterday. It was on biochemistry. I didn't think it was horrible, although I did use my imagination on a few of the questions (I couldn't really remember the structure of the nucleotide bases, or N- and O-linked glycosylation, but alas). We'll see how I did.
Life in general is good, although I don't feel like I've made any close friends here. Everyone is nice, but I don't know anyone in the program that well. I wonder what happened along the way, when all the little cliques were formed, and what I could have done better. I feel like I'm just outside all these little circles. That's okay, though.
I have to go read a couple of journal articles now, so this will conclude my entry.
