Wilson College Inquiry

Several weeks ago, I recieved a letter from Wilson College (an all women's college that supposedly high in ranking) on the basis that they learned of me through Phi Theta Kappa (NHS) and want to offer me their 6,000 per year scholarship to finish my major (which is psychology) there under that Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship they have. My minor should ( Read more... )

Hi!

Just to chime in...I'm a Wilson Alum. I graduated in '97.

Besides all of the great things shared above - and believe me they keep making things better & better on campus - there is a great Alumnae Association at Wilson. The Alums are truly interested in everything going on at the school. A number of Alums are "Aunt Sarah's" to first year students - basically those who participate write montly letters to their student and end up corresponding back and forth for the entire year and then generally have some sort of big reveal because the Aunt Sarah doesn't reveal her identity usually. I had a friend who became very close to her Aunt Sarah and still visits her to this day. My Aunt Sarah got me involved in the Alumnae Association after I graduated - I've been on the AA Board of Directors and am a Class Officer.

I will say that although a number of professors have moved on or retired since I was a student, many of them are still there. The professors love to teach and spend more time teaching than doing research unlike the larger college or university professor types.

Oh - and the food is a ton better than when I was there. You use to be able to predict the exact menu at each function but now that isn't the case. They've always been conscious of vegetarian & vegan students.

Also - when I was there a ton of work was done for ADA compliance & although some buildings need more work they did a great job. When I first arrived on campus in the Fall of 1993 most of the buildings were not wheelchair accessible & although Mac/Dav had an elevator, it had one of those old fashioned accordian gates that was not wheelchair friendly. It is so much better now!

Good luck in March - I'm sure it will go well. What's great is after you visit once usually everyone remembers you by first name. :)

Hey.

So the "Aunt Sarah" situation is sort of like mentoring, well, it is mentoring but you know what I mean - sounds interesting, especially since I've never had a mentor in any school I've been in anyway.

I'll keep that in mind about the food, and yes, like mentioned above I hear that the school is always improving so that's a good thing (as always).

Thanks.
