Transgender Students and Women's Colleges: A Conversation
Friday December 8, 2006
Mount Holyoke College
Willits-Hallowell Conference Center
This day long conference will be an excellent opportunity to dialogue with faculty, staff, students, and community members about supporting transgender students on our campuses.
At Mount Holyoke College and other all female institutions, the impact of women transitioning into another gender identity is highly visible and directly impacts the college in a variety of ways. Mount Holyoke College enters, educates, and graduates females. What then does the college do when we have a growing number of students who are transitioning to male? How does this affect the educational mission of the college? What types of services can the college provide to support transgender students? What is the responsibility of the college to challenge or change institutional policies?
This day retreat is a wonderful opportunity for peer institutions to join together and caucus about inclusiveness on our campuses. Please come prepared to discuss the impact on your campus and how female institutions can work together to help support transgender students.
For more information about the conference, registration, and the day, please visit
this website. Registration is due by November 30, 2006 and is limited to 85 conference attendees. Please share this information with other members of your campus community. The conference planning committee has been diligently working to bring this conference to life and we are excited to have the opportunity to explore this debate with other all female institutions. If you have any specific questions about the conference after visiting the website, please email Bill Boerner, wboerner@mtholyoke.edu or call (413)538-2088.
We look forward to seeing you on December 8!
