i don't know about the college but i'll say this... when considering your financial aid package ask if you can apply what they offer you to studying abroad. my little sister made that conditional upon going there and has been able to study all over europe and australia.
My aunt did two years there and really loved it. It's a small, personal school with a lot to offer in that regard. You'll get a chance to take some stranger speciality courses that would be lost in the shuffle at a larger school.
Plus, you will get all the small school benefits. It's also in a good part of the country and it's far enough away from home that you are away, but close enough that you can get back if you get homesick/want to see high school friends/need to be with your parents to help them out.
I said I wanted to get out of the South, too...and now I'm in Philly and get homesick a lot. All my closest friends are Southern, and we all miss it.
Here's the thing: Initially, I was in your boat. Didn't even want to consider an all-girls school, it was only on my list because of the legacy I hold here, and it kept my dad happy while I looked at the other colleges
( ... )
My brother went to Wofford, right up the street from Converse. I went to Hollins in Virginia, of course when he graduated I had to drive by converse to check it out. I thought the campus was cute, manageable in size and I hear that the girls are nice (from my brother). My second grade teacher went there as well and speaks highly of it.
My brother said getting used to living in Spartanburg was hard (it's relatively small and slow-paced) but there are a ton of smaller colleges all around the area and much intermingling between them. Converse girls have to go right up the street to frat parties at Wofford, etc. So, socially I hear it's a-ok. I don't know much about the academics! Sorry!
