What did you guys think of the two books of the month? To be honest, I'm still in the middle of The Blind Assassin and I like it so far. I hope it stays good.
I loved Garden Spells. I thought it was so good. It does remind me of Practical Magic but there are enough differences that I'm cool with it.
What do y'all think? Don't spoil me for Assassin

I really enjoyed Garden Spells, too. Light, and fun reading.

My main quibble with The Blind Assassin is that the reviews and summaries I read all spoiled the main spoiler! I'll be interested to hear if anyone read it without knowing ahead of time. I really did enjoy the book...I haven't enjoyed other Atwood I've read, but I think the amount of hopelessness is more tolerable to me in fiction than in science fiction. :-) I found myself thinking about it in literary fashion, though, wondering about the author's choices, because I knew too much ahead of time.

I didn't read any spoilers. LOL. So I might be the one. I don't really read reviews. :)

I was thinking the same thing. Her science fiction really skeeves me out sometimes, but this one isn't as bad, although there certainly is an air of hopelessness to it. I have just under 200 pages to go.

I honestly have not been able to get into the Blind Assassin. I've tried reading it three times and I can't seem to get into it and end up returning it to the library. Any words of wisdome or hope to get me to try again? :)

I don't know. I know sometimes books just put you off. When I picked it up, I told myself if I wasn't hooked by the third chapter, I wouldn't bother. It hooked me though....

Don't force yourself. There's no law that says you HAVE to read it.
