Stupid question time!

If I start a second character on a game like Skyrim on the Xbox 360, the saves for that character won't have any impact on the first character, correct? Pretty sure the answer is "no" but I want to be absolutely sure before I do anything. Better safe than sorry. I'm pretty attached to my 11/11/11 save file from when I started my first character ( Read more... )

They're absolutely unrelated, so your new character wont delete your old one. Just double check if you're manually saving that you don't overwrite the other save, but IIRC you wont even get the other character's saves on your new character's game.. If that makes sense?

is it different for the 360 version of Skyrim? in the PC one, the saves are all numbered, and it counts up no matter what character I'm using. There are no separate character subfolders.

So, auto- and quick-saves from one character will overwrite the auto/quick-saves from the other one. Make sure you've got your first character saved manually!

Definitely going to make sure the last save on my first character is a manual before I start a new one.

I know if you have more than one profile on the 360, one profile won't show game saves from the other. My roommate and I have separate profiles and are both playing Skyrim, and my saves don't show up for him and vice versa. Don't know how it would work for two characters under the same profile, though. Guess I'll find out soon.

I was slightly wrong, I think I have Mass Effects saving system in my head. From what I can tell through Google you can have two saves, but like yhibiki said your auto-saves will overwrite one another and you just need to be careful of manual saves as you may accidentally click a wrong one to overwrite and lose that save for your other character.

IIRC that when you select a character that you start a new save file and so all the saves thereafter are only related to that character. I will have to go and double check now, I could be thinking of Mass Effect and your icon isn't helping matters :P

yeah, Mass Effect and Dragon Age defintiely do that, but the current version of Skyrim for the PC does not. Which is really irritating because it makes the save files really unorganized.

Yeah I really think I got muddled. Looks like you're right in how they've handled the saving system, I decided to ask Google in the end. It's really annoying that they've set it up that way. ME/DA do it the right way for sure.
