Well I was going to tell you to get the Nraas ErrorTrap--a wonderful mod for anyone experiencing some glitch/crash/save problems in The Sims 3, but then I saw the post about you playing on the Xbox.
Console versions of The Sims 3 are terrible in comparison to the PC version. That's not to say I haven't enjoyed playing them, but when it comes to glitches and a lack of support, there's no better way to be frustrated than to play a Sims game on the console.
My all-time favorite console version of The Sims franchise is The Sims 2: Castaways on the Nintendo Wii. A fantastic free-roaming survival game, but God help you if you make one maneuver it didn't like. Your UI would disappear and you'd be lucky if you could blindly feel your way to save and quit so you could reset without losing hours of gameplay.
