I was sitting on the porch just watching the rain and thinking about the terrorist attacks in London when the first few lines came to mind, and I thought I might be able to make something out of them. Here are the results...
As the rain falls from the sky
in sheets of silvery singing
I find myself thinking
that the earth is crying.
For so many loves lost,
for the senseless death
and final ceasing of breath
incurred at the hands of the angry.
Like leaves succumbing to the weight of dewdrops,
existences shattered and relationships battered
by the biting,poignant reality
of unspeakable pain.
Like grass slick with the vestiges of a storm,
distorted faces soaked with tears
at the thought of the immeasurable years
of lives that will never be lived.
And as the downpour becomes a drizzle,
a summer shower reaching its end
I hope desperately that it will lend
the calming peace that follows
to all.
