At her helm as she left the harbor was the Jade Captain, sturdy and stalwart. In her rigging and on her deck were the Storm Sailors, afraid of no storm nor sea to ever rise up. Keeping a wary eye for trouble were the Blue Guard, ever alert. Aboard were her last passengers, and probably her most important, the group of travelers from Kornewall, the very people that had awakened her from her four hundred year slumber. There was Willy, reluctant leader, ever giving the appearance of being a rogue but always a steady lead. There was Tommy Gallows, meditative, introspective, a voice of wisdom. There was Kerm the Voon, breaking the mold for what a voon could be and could do. Kirah, the heir apparent to her family's rule, runaway and adventurer. Twyr, refuge from a time best forgotten. And Rei-rei, a roar with a mission to prevent the slide of the world back into chaos. They rode into the wall of storms and waves that marked the edge of the Greater Gyre and then into legend.
Thus ended six years of role playing in a campaign first thought up with Pete after a lunch at some local eatery or another. Pete had described the urge to dream up some sort of water-based adventure and I picked it up and ran with as far as I could, coming up with what I called "The Ashes of the Hasppian Empire". The players that began the campaign were refuges from the ending of the Living Force Star Wars RPGA campaign, which we all thought highly of. The initial gang were Brad, Brandon, Joe, Nick, Pete, Roger, and Sean. There was some attrition along the way and we gained some folks. Genevieve, who managed both, was the first newcomer as well. Steve joined up after Genevieve had left. The last two folks to join were Elizabeth and Fiona. In the end, we had Brad, Brandon, Elizabeth, Fiona, Roger and Steve. Roger set the absolute record for most dedicated player, missing only two sessions, and even playing in the few make-up sessions that were thought up just 'cuz. Dedication like that really puts the pressure on to make sure that everyone is having a good time!
I would like to thank everyone that ever played. You were a great set of folks, putting up with my plot changes, half-assed ideas, corrections to the rules, and general, all around GM foibles. You motivated me to try to create something that you would enjoy. It's been a great trip! Hope we have at least this much fun in future campaigns!
Memorable Roleplaying Moments:
Opening session, introducing characters (spontaneous):
Pete: "I am Sir Wilberforce Hallendale Gantry III, disposed nobleman."
Brandon: "I'm just Willy."
Pete: "Son?"
Brandon: "Dad???"
Genevieve: "We should follow where the voon's thingy points."
Brad (after it's been found that there's a reward offered for Kirah's return): "So, this is worth two Kirahs?"
Setup: Wilberforce has tricked the voon into entering a potentially dangerous room by saying that there were pancakes to found there. The voon has wiggled back out, claiming that there are a bunch of damsels in distress beyond the wall. Wilberforce is disappointed to find no such female companionship.
Pete: "There are no women here!"
Brad: "There were no pancakes either, asshole!"
And many, many others! Neglect to include them all is due to both a lack of space, lack of brain, and mercy to any outside readers that were in danger of suffering permanent eye damage to glazing over. (cross-posting to g+)
