Big Magnets and Little Electronics

Don't mix. My iPod nano decided that it had had quite enough of the fringe field of the 17.625 T* magnet and refused to function. Happily, there was recovery information available via the net (press the center button and the menu button simultaneously and hold until little Apple logo appears) but it was a disconcerting event until that moment occurred.

On a related note, I do know that post-2005 credit cards can withstand about 1.5 to 2.0 T worth of field with no ill effects.

* - 17.625 Tesla = 17,625 gauss which is about 350 times stronger than a typical refrigerator magnet. but then, i was only in the fringe field... probably about 1,000 gauss, maybe a bit more.
