Maybe everyone already knows this trick, and I'm late to the party, but I just learned something really neat, and I wanted to share with anyone trying to eat better.
You can make your own microwave popcorn for a lot less than you can buy it in the store. You just need brown paper lunch bags, a microwave, and popcorn kernels.
Take your paper bag, put in a 1/4 cup of unpopped popcorn, fold over the top two or three times, creasing firmly. Throw it in the microwave. Pop as usual.
This way you can control the oil and fat content of your popcorn, as well as getting your preferred flavoring on the popcorn. I originally saw this recipe on Good Eats, where he added olive oil to the popcorn before popping, and also stapled the bag. Metal staples in the microwave make me nervous, but just folding the bag works. I've been adding the oil after popping too, for ease of cleanup. It tastes great. (I've also been adding curry powder, and that's been really good too!)
