The Positive Series (1) - Why I Love: My Job

Apr 12, 2010 11:10

I feel like I've been a little moody, whingy, emo and withdrawn lately. So I have decided to be more positive. Starting with:

Why I Love:
My Job

I know I moan about it, but really it's good. I like:
* The usual benefits of working - It pays my rent, my food, my transport, gives me a little disposable income and the like. It also gives me stuff to do during the day.
* Buying books - I really do like buying books, especially when they're good ones, the customer is nice or there is something I'm interested in. There's something very satisfying about it.
* The smell of coffee - Om nom nom
* The staff discount - I really like a large amount of our stock, so the staff discount comes in handy.
* Helping customers find the right thing - Whether it's the exact book they were looking for or a present for a 14 year old girl, it's nice to make people happy
* Seeing the new stock come in - Unless it's basic stationery (biros just aren't that exciting) there's usually something pretty or new or funny or interesting to look at, even in the cards.
* Pricing scarves, jewellery, wood boxes, candles, and nice things - I am such a girl sometimes and I like pretty things.
* Restocking the incense - It sounds odd, but it's strangely fun to do, and it makes you hands smoothy-soft.
* The Mad Customers - They may be annoying at the time but they're hilarious afterward.
* Getting complimented for my help/phone manner/occasionally appearance - Sounds rather big headed, but it does happen from time to time, and it makes me feel good because they've got no agenda. Complimenting me is not going to get them a discount, so even if it's just them being nice it still makes me happy.
* Finding random books are worth a shedload of money - Like the one I bought in an odd box of books that turned out to be worth we don't know how much and is going to auction. (It's signed by a bunch of old racing drivers, which I didn't know because I hadn't opened it.)
* Writing books up to go on the internet - Monotonous but very soothing.
* When I have a good idea that really works - Like selling the bathbombs at 3 for £5. Now everyone buys three.
* Smelling the soaps when I come in - Self explanatory really.
* Helping do the ordering.
* The occasional freebie - These are nice. They usually take the form of second hand books that have just come in or old stock that's not needed anymore.
