One of those mornings

Well, I'm off to a great start this morning. The ATM machine in the SuperAmerica ate my card, and when I got to the airport I had to switch to the 12:35 flight since Delta wouldn't let me check my bags in for the 2:30 flight until 8:30. WTF??? Well, this works out better anyway since the day after the mid-month cutoff is usually ungodly slow and I have a lot of time on my hands; now I only have three hours to kill at work, a one-hour layover in Cincinnati instead of the original three hours, and hopefully more face time with friends on Friday night. Yay!

Got together with jtrainor for some dinner at Old Country Buffet last night and a lot of conversation. After I got home and dealt with mail, there wasn't enough time to pack before I needed to fall over and get sleep, so I waited until this morning to do so - not a big deal, since I only packed a couple days' clothes, my ditty bag and the nose hose. Everything else went in the gym bag and the laptop case, and all told it took me twenty minutes to get dressed and pack. Damn, I'm good.

Started reading Annie Proulx' The Shipping News Wednesday and Close Range today, and so far I have to say that I like her short stories a lot better than I do the novel. Then again, I don't care for loser protagonists, and Quoyle in The Shipping News is a pretty sad human being, Sad Sack made flesh with an unfaithful wife and deranged relatives. "Brokeback Mountain" is the last story in the collection, and since I'm loaning it to marainsanity after I'm done I'm not going to say anything about it in the LJ.

Also started David Weber's The Shadow of Saganami, which looks to be rather interesting indeed. It'll be a nice change of pace from the Honor Harrington novels and all their drama.

travel, domestic stuff, books, family drama
