Pleasant surprises in the mail

May 21, 2013 19:22

No, not the 1120S instructions I got in the mail from the IRS. I expected those. The surprise was a check for $16 from the Fairfax County circuit court; apparently I overpaid them when I paid off my ticket back in March. So that was nice to have.

As usual, I went to the library to get one thing and came back with a bunch of other stuff. Contrary to the online catalog, Catching Fire and Mockingjay weren't on the shelves at my local branch of the county library, but I did find John Ringo's Live Free Or Die, the two most recent atevi novels by C.J. Cherryh (Intruder and Protector) and Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policemen's Union, which despite its awards is not proving to be as attractive a read as the John Ringo novel.

Aside from those, I'm probably going to start re-reading Up Jim River.

Amused that none of the comments to the preceding post were signed, so I have no idea who left three of them; one of them, on the other hand, was pretty obvious, and it was good to hear from her. (Hi, Suzi!)
