Not long before the end

Oh, I'm fine...well, my toe and my leg ulcers are almost completely healed, anyway.

On the other hand, I'm about a month away from the end of the fall semester, and things are mostly on track for me to pass all my courses. In fact, I'm doing damn well in Marketing and all right in all the other courses. So far so good.

I'm also finally learning the hours at the college, or at least when it closes on weekdays and weekends. Funny, I've been going here for the last year and a half and it never occurred to me to check that sort of thing. Then again, I never had to hang out there for my internets before. Anyway...while the classrooms at the Alexandria campus may not be all that when it comes to power outlets and comfortable seats, the library is another matter entirely. Unfortunately, they have the bad taste to announce their imminent closure by blasting "So Long, Farewell" from The Sound of Music over the PA ten minutes before closing time, followed immediately by John Williams' "Imperial March" from Star Wars. The student lounge areas in the Bisdorf building are also good workspaces.

My old Gateway laptop, Cowzilla, is beginning to show signs of electronic senility. When I booted it up last night at McD's in the hope that I could use its onboard emacs to get the FMJRA and other linkagery done, but Thunderbird had some kind of senior moment and forgot all my gmail & AOL mail accounts; it apparently thought I was back in 2004 when the only e-mail I had was from att.net. Also, the emacs file I needed was garbaged. I eventually wound up downloading the data I needed on Netzilla, moving it to Learned Cow, and doing the emacs hacking there, since Netzilla's disk is (relatively) tiny and not big enough to hold an emacs installation. I will be sad when Cowzilla dies the real death; it may be heavy, reliant exclusively on AC power since its battery is shot, and a little sticky in the keyboard, but we've been through a lot together and it got me through many times when desktop machines failed me. Dumb to get attached to equipment, I know, but there it is.

Time to shift myself from Annandale to home, do lunch, and then head over to Alexandria, where I think I'll hang out and do homework until it's time for law class. Or something along those lines.

medical stuff, tech stuff, school
