Fall semester begins - wait, what?

Apparently while I've been brooding over cash flow issues and poking along with the online Intermediate Accounting II course, the beginning of Fall Semester at NVCC snuck up on me. Fortunately, I only have one accounting course and three business courses to do, but one of them I'll need the instructor's permission for, so I know what I'll be doing tomorrow morning, along with changing my degree program from a CSC to an AA and some other administrative crapola.

Oh yeah, we also had a piddly-ass little earthquake here, just 5.9 on the Richter scale, but it was enough to get everyone around here to go OMG EVERYBODY FREAK OUT; schools were closed, rush hour craziness happening early, all that fun stuff. Nothing even fell over in my apartment, which is nothing short of incredible.

P talked me out of selling Masha to raise funds for a TouchPad (more like threatened to come down and beat me if I did) but it would have been pointless anyway since I probably wouldn't have been able to get $150 for my pistol. Related: Hitler reacts to HP canceling the TouchPad. (Thanks to brian_edminster for that one.)

Downloaded Keith Laumer's Legions of Space and Future Imperfect from the Baen Free Library; the former contains half of Laumer's novel The Glory Game in its original form as "Message To An Alien". Also picked up Vernor Vinge's A Fire On The Deep, Solzhenitsyn's November 1916 (this is the second of his unfinished "Red Wheel" series) and Gary Taubes' Why We Get Fat.

Progress continues on clearing out the living room so that we can fit RS' couch in here. Today, I finally assembled the last bookshelf, and tomorrow I'll be clearing the space in front of the window while disposing of the remnants of the Failbox.

domestic stuff, tech stuff, books, school
