I haven't gotten involved in any V-Day activities this year, but I encourage you to do so. There is also an incredible campaign that was just started by some women in India. They call themselves "A Consortium of Pub-Going, Loose, and Forward Women" and you can join
their group on facebook,
read their blog, and read about them in
this article on the BBC website. Formed after an organized attack on women in a pub in Mangalore, India, they are encouraging women in India and all over the world to walk to a pub and buy a drink this Valentine's Day, and not be afraid to do so. They are also collecting pink underwear to send to the right-wing group responsible for the attack-to make fun of one of the colloquial nicknames of the right-wing group, draw attention to the problem, and as a form of creative, non-violent protest.
Spread the love. Spread the pink underwear.
Have a safe Valentine's Day!
