A letter to Ama, dropped in a hallway near the Great Hall:
My dearest Amarante,
You've only been gone for a week, but I feel that it has been too long. I miss you something terrible. The greenery of Iceland is so much less beautiful when you aren't here to share it with. There are days when I sincerely wish I had not grown so close to you this summer, so that being away from you wouldn't be so terrible. But, in the end, I think I would rather be in pain and have the memories of our times together, than be comfortable and have no memories at all.
Enough of that. How is school going? Is Jez doing quite well, and keeping you company at night like I told her to? I should hope so. Or else I will give her a good talking to this Christmas. I couldn't bear the thought of you having no one to cuddle. Discovered anything new with you research? Your passion for research amazes me.
I know you're worrying about the future, and what to do next year after you finish school. STOP! Everything is going to be alright, Ama dear. You needn't worry so extensively. It will give you wrinkles.
As for me, I am having a good time with mother and my brothers. Mother has found a midwife who I can apprentice. I'm very happy with this development.
Would be happier if you were here.
Heaps of love,
Lilja
