stolen bike

I went to ride my bike to work this morning and it was missing.  It's my own fault, since I've stopped locking it when it's in front of our apartment.  We live in family housing on campus, my bike is a piece of shit, covered in stickers and probably as old as I am.  I just got lazy, especially in the winter when I'm fumbling to get all the clothing I need to get on to ride to work and I have to take my gloves off to unlock, then put them back on.  Totally stupid, I know.

Amazingly, I'm not that upset about it.  I will miss this bike.  It's the first bike I really rode as a form of transit.  Ok, not really, since I rode this crappier bike for a couple of years in Davis, but I've been riding this one for almost 7 years.  It was a nice beater bike that I figured would be unlikely to be stolen, because it was so ugly, but beautiful to me.  However, I have been wanting to get a newer or at least more comfortable bike for commuting, which I would never do when I still have this bike.  I still hope it gets recovered and I'm going to put some signs up near my apartment, but I'm not that upset.  I have more important things to freak out about right now, and I do have two other bikes.

On the other hand, I still think it's fucked up that people would steal my bike.  I mean, come on, it's obviously just the piece of crap I get around town in and isn't worth any $, so why bother stealing it?  Just to be a jerk?  I can understand stealing an expensive bike, not that I condone it, but it's worth $ and if you're really desparate and lost your morals, ok.  But my bike will not sell for anything.  No one will want to ride it, at least not in Boulder, because someday I or one of my friends will see it and call the cops and take it back.  Hopefully.  That would be neat if, maybe I don't get it soon, but eventually it gets found and returned to me.  It has sentimental value :)
