So, in the style of my friend Alison, I will say what I have accomplished this year and make some lists of what I want to accomplish next year. i will then add some life goals, to be accomplished at some point.
2008
ran a marathon in less than 5 hours
swam, bike, ran well in the tri for the cure
ran an excellent colder boulder time
my first first author paper is now in print
I did some cool things in the lab, leading to 2 submissions that I will present in Feb at ASSP
Got the comb locked to Hg+.
Got Adam and I our own place that we are pretty happy with except for the long commute for adam.
i'm pretty happy. I still think there's a lot to work on in my life though.
2009
loose 10 lbs and be back at my pre-germany weight
try birth control again to see if it will help make my cramps go away
stop having insomnia
try to make some more mini-vacations with Adam that don't involve family.
I want to write 3 papers and then graduate this year...am I crazy?? The science part is mostly done, it's interesting but not all that related. Theses are hard.
Oh, and I want to compete with Adam in an olympic distance triathlon this summer. We might also do a long bike ride to raise money for peace. We'll see.
Long term goals
get a job in Colorado that is stable, does interesting work and pays me well. I'd like to make 2x my grad school salary, but I don't mind any above that. Mostly I want it to be a healthy work environment that will keep me sane and make me work on things that are interesting and fun projects that will challenge me and that I will love. At the moment I'm leaning towards working at NREL. The research is at the forfront, maybe not my favorite type of research, but it will be intellectually stimulating and I can help the world while doing it so that's neat. I'll work there if i can. plus I can go mountainbiking during lunchtime if I work there.
buy a house-probably also marry Adam somewhere in this process, but not in a normal fashion. We're thinking from the top of Long's peak or something.
have a kid (really, convince adam that we should have a kid)
Do a half-Ironman triathlon someday.
learn to play piano better

hang out with my friends more
keep work into perspective
