kari_hermine said Evil!Team, and my mind started working. For the AU Challenge, this is AU supernatural, the team are all vampires, who are not only a team, but a family and members of the same clan. The family who work together, kill together.
Nate looked over his team, his family. Twenty years in the making, and now he was sure they were prepared. Sophia, his right hand woman, full of allure, planning and cunning. She could charm anyone into one of her schemes, and have them begging for more. Only if she let them live of course, which wasn't often, after all she had a healthy appetite.
Then the girl of the team, Parker with her unique way of looking at things, but often insightful comments. She could steal anything, no matter how secure, a true asset for his plans. Yes they may have stole the few odd treasures, a vampire has to live in the style it has become accustomed to over the years, but some of the artefacts that they had, and the power they gave his little group of select family would ensure victory.
Then the two boys. They were a couple when he met them, and difficult to track down and overcome. Hardison, truly at home in the modern world, adaptable and could dig up the dirt on anyone with his skill on a computer. His one weakness was his total inability to fight. Then his partner more than took care of that. A true warrior of the first class. He came over as the brawn of the team, but that is where many underestimated him, while he had the speed, strength and technique to overcome what seemed insurmountable odds, he also had other talents and assets which often saved them.
Oh he remembered the fight he had. They always seemed one step ahead of him. The turning point had come when a fight had gone badly wrong. Eliot was hurt, and it don't look like he was going to make it. For once they had been taken by surprise as a sniper in an upper apartment building had put a bullet in the hitter. It didn't seem like Hardison could make it in time to save Eliot, as he screamed his name.
Nate came out of the shadows where he had been watching the action. This was his chance. He walked up to Eliot, totally unharmed by the shot the sniper fired his way. Looking at Hardison he said, "I can feel his heartbeat fading, but I can save him. Just say the word, and you will both have eternity together."
Hardison's face took on an expression of panic, tears falling down his face as he finally threw himself down beside the man who meant more than life to him "Do it," he whispered, giving Eliot's human body one last hug.
"You have to agree to become one of us as well," Nate stated.
"I would've done everything I could to become a vampire if you made Eliot one, I'm never leaving him, human or vampire," Hardison cried.
While Nate had the satisfaction of getting his two boys it has taken a bit of getting used to. Eliot took a little while to adjust to the family dynamic, he ranted at Hardison for agreeing to them becoming vampires when they had tried so hard to avoid it. He fought Nate for dominance, but Nate was an old vampire, and well practiced in his abilities, while, despite his human skills, Eliot was unused to the changes to his physic since becoming a vampire giving Nate the upper hand.
What was really going to make his team the victors in Nate's battle to overcome Sterling as The Master of their vampire clan, and make him suffer for banishing Nate those years ago, was that his family cared about each other. The clan stayed together by a mixture of fear, power, hunger and loyalty to the hierarchy. With his family they stayed together for a mixture of caring, respect and cooperation. They knew each other, their strengths and weaknesses, and had each other's backs. The clan would throw you to the wolves, his team would kill the wolves for you.
Nate was proud of his team and what he had accomplished, they had a reputation that struck fear into the hearts of any supernatural beings that had heard of them, humans were of no consequence to them, and seen as a means to an end. Whether that was some possession they had or merely food, more often than not both. They mixed in the upper classes of society, Sophia soon gaining them admittance to any social gathering that caught their eye or might have something of importance concealed within. They had grown and expanded their influence in the twenty years of planning that Nate had invested in his bid to overcome Sterling, and today was the day it was going to happen. Either Nate and his family would rule, or be dead trying.
Nate decided the journey from Boston to Sterling's lair in New York would be less conspicuous if they took a train, rather than their own expensive cars which attracted attention. He wished to have some element of surprise, as well as the power of two especially forged items. A shield which gained you protection from any supernatural powers of your enemies, and a ring which enhanced the wearers own strength, stamina and agility. Nate had had these artefacts for a while, but Parker had stolen a spell which allowed the powers to be enjoyed by the whole team, not just the one using them. It centred on the leader of the group, and radiated from them.
They packed what they considered essential to the fight, Hardison had booked in advance, the 9:25pm train would arrive in New York at 2:20am. They judged it would take about half an hour to get to Sterling's lair, especially at that time of night. The city might never sleep, but does have peaks.
Parker was took her harness to make a surprise attack through the window of the penthouse floor that Sterling used as his accommodation. She looked slight, but had flexibility and strength which many underestimated. Sophie would go with her. While Sophie was not used to fighting, using her charms and quick wit, in a fight she was resourceful and had a sharp eye for anything which would give her the upper-hand.
Nate knew he had to fight his way in, and was relishing the opportunity to pay back some of the vampires in the clan who had betrayed him, he gave a grim smile as he drew himself up to his full height, determined they would end the night as dust. At his side strode Eliot, his champion and warrior. It was going to be a tough fight, but, apart from the shield and ring, they had another advantage. Hardison had hacked into the computers of the building, and they had planned out the nightly schedule within the building. Hardison would of course take his ipad and conduct operations from the outside. He also had control of the power within the building, giving them the technological advantage. With the shield dampening the supernatural abilities of their foe, he could switch off the lights leaving Nate and Eliot with the upper hand of being able to see with their vampire vision.
At 4am everything was in place. The vampires who had gone out to hunt, or take care of business for the clan would not be back for another two hours at least. That would give Nate and Eliot time to get to Sterling's chamber to issue Nate's challenge. Nate planned to get from the ground floor to the penthouse with as little fuss as possible, but they were both more than ready to handle anything that got in their way. Parker and Sophia would soon have Sterling in a position where he would have to accept Nate's challenge, while Eliot stood proudly as the chosen champion. He knew that Sterling had two champions, but, with Hardison's equipment Eliot had studied their moves, and was sure he had an advantage. Hardison was watching the events from an office building across the street. He knew that he was the weakest in a fight, but from this vantage point could use his skills to best advantage. He was still worried as he prepared to give to his team every sneaky, underhand and devious assistance he could.
Nate and Eliot entered the building, not surprised at the lack of security, or at least working security as they made their way towards the elevators which would take them straight to the penthouse. The vampire security personnel saw nothing from the cameras they were watching, nor did they hear anything with the dampening of their vampire hearing.
Parker and Sophia crashed in through the windows, distracting Sterling's guard. They were beguiled by the two attractive female vampires who had made such a spectacular entrance long enough for Sophia and Parker to make it into Sterling's main room before anyone could stop them, hampered by the loss of their vampire abilities, and unsure of themselves having been rendered as weak as humans. Sterling and his two champions stood within a circle which caused a barrier against any magical or physical influence.
The elevator doors opened, revealing both Nate and Eliot. Sterling sat still watching Nate walk towards him with his powerful champion by his side.
"Nate, dear boy, have you come to pay your respects? It is about time you brought your family to court, we have heard so much about them," Sterling said in his most commanding tone.
"No Sterling, you banished me twenty years ago, and I had to make my own little clan. As you may have heard they have grown and prospered under my guidance, I now come to claim what belongs to my and my kin," Nate replied, his voice steady and strong.
"And what may I ask do you think you and your kin deserve?" Sterling asked in a snide voice.
"To rule the clan. I challenge you for the rights of head of our order," Nate stated.
One of the champions moved forward in a threatening manner, as Sterling laughted.
"Oh Nate, you always had such high ambitions but does your little family know what you are asking from them?" questioned Sterling.
"Yes they do," Nate proudly retorted.
"Then I accept. Enter the circle. Your champion will be first to fall." Sterling sat back confidently as his two champions lined up to fight Eliot. They made their first mistake, and for one his last, as they rushed at Eliot, he elbowed the one behind him in the face, and gave a round house kick to the side of the one in front. Taken off balance, he stumbled as Eliot staked the still blinded vampire behind him.
Sterling applauded, giving Eliot a sly smile. He was confident of his remaining champion's dirty tricks and down and dirty style. What he didn't realise that Eliot knew it as well, and was prepared for it.
As the fight wore one, Nate moved towards Sterling, laying a hand on his shoulder. "Still feeling as confident as you were earlier?" Nate enquired in a soft tone.
"Oh, champions are easy come, easy go. You know the last battle is between you and me, and that I am confident of winning," taunted Sterling.
"After all these year of living the high life, with your every little whim taken care off, I'm sure you're pretty soft. While I've been struggling with my family for survival, living on our wits and whatever advantage we could get." Nate raised an eyebrow, looking towards the fight for the first time as Eliot staked the second vampire, and they all heard the whoop of joy from Hardison as his boyfriend won the battle.
Nate then pulled out his own stake, hidden behind the shield, and without any warning pushed it into Sterling's heart as easily as putting down a viper, which Nate knew Sterling to be, and how lowly deceitful he was. Nate never had any intention of giving him any chances.
Within minutes Hardison was in the room, the rest of the building in turmoil from the news that Sterling was dead. Nate had given word he wanted certain vampires brought to him, and they were tracked down before they made their escape. Each of them had betrayed Nate in the past, and vampire rules stated they must pay with their lives. Eliot, as the new champion of the head of the clan had to behead them in front of the court, as Hardison looked proudly on.
Nate had what he wanted, his family were the most powerful vampires in the clan, the court and the East of America. Now he would bide his time. He may still be able to claim the whole of America one day.
