Jaded_Jamie and I Talking.

In my comments yesterday I challenged Jamie to identify which scene in Leverage had me laughing so hard. He phoned me up to tell me which one he was sure it was, and was right. *Bravo* but anyway this post is not about that.

We started talking about Doctor Who, and the new shift in fandom that you have to rip off one Doctor to be a fan of another. I noticed this with nine, ten and now it seems to have started again with 11. My first Doctor was three, with Jon Pertwee. Did I hate four, with Tom Baker.....NO! Tom Baker was great in the role, the regeneration of the Doctor is a brilliant idea, and has kept Doctor Who going as the longest running show with the one character. Doctor Who can outlive any actor, and a new actor can take his place when he leaves the show.

Other shows with long lived characters have a limited life expectancy, such as AtS, dependent on David Boreanaz, or Torchwood, dependent on John Barrowman. This is not the case with Doctor Who, he can change, the actors can go on to other things, age and The Doctor goes on and on.

There is no reason to hate a previous, or new, Doctor to prove your love of another. They are the same character, and that is what I love, the character.
