Nikolas has arrived! I've already introduced him to Alexandra and they seem to be getting along well~
Nik:
Alex, because she's beautiful:
The young man stands at the window casement, anxious for news from his lady. On this evening's tide his ship will sail, carrying him away toward an uncertain future.
A soft sound draws his attention and he turns, eyes full of hope.
Exceeding his wildest expectations, it is not a servant who approaches with such soft tread, but his lady herself, radiant in a silk gown as she approaches. Her beauty takes his breath away, and reverently he sweeps the cap from his head, still breathless as he greets her.
"My Lady..."
"Lord Nikolas," her voice is soft with hesitation, and she lingers out of reach fearing she has been too forward. "I came as soon as I received your message."
"I'm glad you did." Emboldened by her presence, he steps close, taking her soft hand in his. "I longed to see you one last time... My ship sails with the tide."
She gasps, and he at once quells the desire to comfort her and feels his heart leap at her dismay. "So soon? Surely we have more time."
"No, my Lady... that's why I fear the time for patience has passed."
Gathering his courage with a deep breath, his hand tightens on hers. "I would ask you, to wait for me, and..." Sinking down on one knee, he looks up into her lovely face. "When I return with my full commission, I ask your leave to speak with the King about us." Her eyes widen as the gravity of his actions, his words register with her fully. "I wish to ask him for your hand, Alexandra. Will you be mine?"
The heartbeats that pass as she gazes down at him in shock seem without number, one elegant hand raised to her lips as nameless thoughts flit through her golden eyes. "Nikolas..."
"Please, Alexandra."
"Y-yes... Yes, Nikolas, you have my leave to speak with my brother."
Surging to his feet, he pulls her close, feeling her heart race in time with his own as he snugs her to his chest. "Are you certain? I won't let you take it back if you answer me now with a certain heart."
There is laughter in her voice, in her eyes, as she answers. "I'm certain. And you?"
Without hesitation, he gives her his answer...
