Attended the next scan this morning to find out if I can start with the next drug.
However, during the scan they found that the fluid in my left tube
(which they found at the initial scan) had not drained (which usually
happens when you get "down regulated" - i.e. all systems shut down).
These fluids are toxic and can prevent the "nesting" of the embryos if
they get into the womb.
So we had the options of either go ahead with the cycle and reduce our
chances of a "BFP" (positive result) from 40% to 20% or go with what
the doctors suggested and cancel this IVF cycle, get a laparoscopy done
to "clip" the tube (probably within 2 months time) and then wait for a
couple of months before starting the IVF treatment again.
DH and I decided to cancel the IVF cycle. My gut reaction was that I
would feel guilty if we would have a negative result as we haven't done
everything (i.e. the laparoscopy) to get a BFP.
Negative (?) aspects are: waiting time (we expect to be back on the IVF
in June - could be earlier of course) and all that comes with it.
Positive aspects: More time to lose weight (as that could be the
ballance as well), get my Sports Therapy Module 9 over with asap (which
I couldn't have done if we would have gone through with IVF), time to
sort out my current job situation and of course doing everything we can
to get a positive result for an IVF cycle.
Just phoned the clinic to confirm our decision - and the nurse said
that the blood test was good for the go-ahead to start the stims
(stimulation). Would you believe!!! Everything is going fine apart from
that stupid fluid (Hydrosalpinx)..... :(
Ach well, suppose that means I can finally drink normal tea again (Red
bush is really getting on my nerves!!!) and I may be allowed to have
some Gluehwein for Christmas!!!!
Now - fingers crossed that we will get the OP done asap .... and I have
to power study now for my Module 9 (upper body anatomy and physiology).
So glad we will be going to a Quiz night tonight ... so no time for me to think about things....
