Inspired by dutchxfan's awesome fic For Him (if you haven't read it, do yourself a favor and read it right now, I'll wait).
Rogue waits for Logan after returning from taking the cure. She wants to be there for him, but he's more gruff than he means to be. He heads out, needing space to clear his head. Unfortunately, he gets the opposite. Memories of the Weapon X program are coming back to him, including the death(s) of Silver Fox, another woman, like Jean, he failed to protect. He fears the same will happen to Rogue, because there's been so many times he's almost failed. He can't stay at Alkali Lake forever, though, and goes to Laughlin City before intending to return to the Mansion.
Meanwhile, Rogue is starting to feel her mutation return, starting with Logan's memories. She knows that he needs her despite his protests, so she breaks up with Bobby, adopts a seize-the-moment start-again look, and heads off to Canada. She finds Logan in the Laughlin bar, and the two go out for drinks and then share a hotel room. Logan thinks about how when he first started developing less than platonic feelings for the kid, and eventually admits to himself that he's always taken too much of an interest. She's passed out on her bed, so he lets her be and turns on the TV. They're talking about Dr. McCoy and the Cure, which they're reporting is only temporary.
The next day, the two reflect about her skin and his promises, and he opens up to her about his past and why he's too dangerous to love. They go to his cabin, where Rogue tells him she thinks he's running away. She confesses that she can still feel him inside her head and it doesn't change how she feels about him. Logan, grateful and knowing the cure might run at any time, kisses her and they spend the night together.
It's what they both need. They can both start again, and they'll figure out a way to make it work. They head off to Anchorage together. Yeah, I totally turned angst into fluff. Enjoy. :D
Dialogue, in case the audio is wonky
Rogue (v.o.): “When they come out does it hurt?”
Logan (v.o.): “Every time.”
Logan: “Did it work?”
Rogue: “I’m so sorry.”
Logan: “Save it.”
Rogue: “I don’t want you to go.”
Scott (v.o.): “No everybody heals as fast as you, Logan.”
Protesters (v.o.): “We don’t need a cure!”
Stryker (v.o): “As I recall, it was you who volunteered for the procedure.”
Stryker (v.o.): “You were an animal then, you’re and animal now.”
Logan (v.o.): “I’ll be back for this.”
Stryker (v.o.): “If you really knew about your past, what kind of person you were.”
Logan (v.o.): “The whole world’s going to hell, you’re just going to sit there?”
