I've always heard stories of crazy fans or stalkers that have come to the point of hurting the artist or performer they claim to admire, such as Mark David Chapman, who assassinated one of my favorite singers; John Lennon; but the fandom of True Blood has a lot of crazy people who can't distinguish reality from fiction.
When a movie or a television series is based on a book, you can expect some similarity to the books in which it is based. I also understand sometimes some things are changed maybe for dramatic purposes, but without taking away the essence of the characters.
When I started watching True Blood back in 2K8 I was curious because it was another vampire series, and I've always been a fan of vampires, from Bela Lugosi's Dracula, to Alexander Skarsgård's Eric Northman. At the very beginning Bill Compton seemed to be a cool vampire, trying to be as human as possible, but as the series was progressing, and when the 2nd season started, I began to dislike him because of the way he treated Sookie. Besides that, there was a tall, blonde Nordic vampire that captured my attention since the first moment I saw him.... This happened to me before when I saw Hugh Jackman (my other favorite actor) playing Wolverine.
By season 3, the series became a mess, only the wonderful performances of Alexander Skarsgård (again) and Denis O' Hare saved the season. At times I felt I was watching a video of a fan fic made by Mr. Ball. When the season finished, I took time to read the books and I fell in love with the Viking vampire even more. While I was reading the books I imagined Alexander as Eric....
I don't understand why Bill still has so much importance in the series, I don't buy that crap that Mr. Ball says about Sookie and Beehl being soulmates, it is like those Marvel fans who defend Jean and Cyclops as a couple... Jean belongs to Wolverine, like Sookie belongs to Eric. I think Mr. Ball too confuses reality with fiction, ok, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are a couple in the real world, but in the world of Sookie Stackhouse; Sookie belongs to the Viking... as long as Charlaine Harris doesn't change her mind.
I'm so tired of seeing posts from Beehl's fans insulting ASkars or Eric. Both Eric and Beehl are fictional characters, and yes, I HATE BILL COMPTON as much as I hate Cyclops, and I LOVE ERIC NORTHMAN as much as I love WOLVERINE, but when I do fan art, I make fun of the character of Beehl Compton, not about Stephen Moyer, and I admit I don't like Stephen Moyer either. I also dislike Moyer and Paquin as a couple, they are boring, too show off and that's perhaps the fact because some people are confusing reality with fiction.
Even Mr. Bolas (opps Mr.Ball) efforts to split the fans between Eric and Alcide, has been futile. They brought Joe Mangiello, but his presence hasn't done anything against the popularity of the Viking. Yes, Joe Mangiello has nice abs, but nothing else... big NEXT
I hope ASkars is nominated for an Emmy and then wins, because in that case, Mr. Bolas should re-think who's the real star of True Blood.
So, if you haven't noticed yet; I'M AN ALEXANDER SKARSGåRD/ERIC NORTHMAN FAN!!!!!!!!!!!
Enough of this insanity, let's have fun watching the series, and I know Alex will rock as amnesiac Eric.
In an unrelated note, last Wednesday I went to see the movie Larry Crowne with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.... and I reminded why they won Oscars... both are so wonderful actors...
