"LOS ANGELES - In a heartbreaking defeat for the gay-rights movement, California voters put a stop to gay marriage, creating uncertainty about the legal status of 18,000 same-sex couples who tied the knot during a four-month window of opportunity opened by the state's highest court."

Obama wins. A good thing in my opinion... but even if I favored another candidate, I'd be disgusted by a lot of the idiocy going around right now.

I still wonder why the stock market continues to crunch... when every damn report says the main reason it's crunching is because people are afraid of it collapsing. Self-fulfilling prophecy anyone?

How many people know of events in the Congo?

I've been making myself look more at world events in the selfish attempt to put my personal issues in perspective... or at least on a backshelf. It hasn't been particularly encouraging...

...although the advances made by NASA, along with other nations' associated organizations, have been astounding. I'm fascinated by the hexagonal storm and the cyclone at the north and south poles, respectively, on Saturn. The recent Phoenix mission on Mars. The advancements in studies of black holes... in our own environment... not to mention the multi-national space station orbiting our earth.

What does it mean that most of the hope and beauty I find these days... is in space?
