Hey, guess what? I've got no pictures for ya today. ;)
My day is off to a good start though. Especially considering I had to be up at 2am, leave the house at 3am and be here by 4am. One of our electrical contractors was rerunning one of the power circuits in one of our wiring closets so I had to be here when they did the work. Actually, Mike was planning on just being here but I had a little tingle in the back of my mind that said I should be here too. It was a good thing too because when the guy got here he informed is that he'd also have to take down one of the old hubs in the other closet and that could have been troublesome considering some of securities alarms go through that hub. So I had to coordinate that power outage with the security group at the last minute. Yeah, we also took out three old hubs that had nothing connected too. Ken about had a cow too. Get this.
There's NOTHING connected to these three unmanaged hubs. You can't even remote into them and do anything, about all your can do is ping them to see that they are there and / or working. So I emailed the network guys a couple of days ago and told them that we were planning on taking them out since they are just taking up space, and power, in the wiring closest. Well, I was informed by the network manager that I should NOT remove them. WTF?!?!?! There's nothing on them! I mean NOTHING connected. Screw that. Ken told me not to do it because the network team would be pissed. Yeah, ok, they might be. IF they find out. The network team comes down here about once a YEAR and does stuff. By the time they figure out that they're not connected it'll be way too late to put them back in. That is, if they even care. I think they only reason they didn't want them removed is because to remove them, we are SUPPOSED to put in a 'Change Management Request' and ask permission to remove something. I can see their philosophy in that if there are things connected to it, it could have a HUGE impact on the environment. This is not one of these cases though. It all boils down to they didn't wanna do a CM because it would probably be denied because our summer 'freeze' starts today. IE, no changes to anything until after . . . . . . . July something or another.
We actually finished that by 4:30am so we basically spent the next couple of hours clearing up a bunch of little dinky tickets and stuff that's easiest to do when NO one is in the building. At 6am I went over to
Lowes and got a bunch of 1/8 inch plywood type wood to slap into our shelving units. They also did the cutting for it too. The only one I'm not gonna be able to get EXACTLY as measured was the shelf that was 8 ft 3 inches. The sheets they had were 6 ft x 8 ft. Eeeehhhh. Close enough. So I'll get them home and put in today. Since we were here at 4am we'll probably be leaving shortly after lunch. Which is nice because it'll give me some more time to try to get the 'family room' put together. I've actually been shopping around online for a HDTV for the new 'family room.' The one I'm currently leaning toward is
this 26 inch Westinghouse LCD TV since it's a decent size (the cut around area in the shelving was designed around a 26 - 32 inch TV) and it's within our budget of 600.00. I also need to talk to Time Warner Cable and investigate how much it would be to get an additional cable box. I haven't decided if I want to move the existing cable box downstairs and just have plain cable in the living room or get another digital converter and have one upstairs and one downstairs. Gotta see how much extra that costs.
Well, that's about it for now.
