I wish I had an arch-nemesis.
I mean, wouldn't that be kinda cool? One of the signs of being some sort of superhero. All the great good guys in history had that villain you loved to hate. Batman and the Joker (and to an extent, Batman and Superman). The X-Men and Magneto. Everyone had an epic adversary. It'd be kind of interesting to have one of my own. The face of whatever it is I'm supposed to be working to undo.
Except there are a couple of problems with that. The first and foremost being that I am a five-foot-eight white guy from Philadelphia who has the physical acumen of a former peer tutor...I can hold my own but in no way am I to be considered athletic, and you kind of need that in a hero.
Plus I've got a hard time figuring out what my arch-nemesis would actually do. Would he be my exact opposite and be some guy that hangs out on rooftops listening to Wagner all day? Would he be one of those gun-toting bravado types? We don't have many of those in the LAPD detective bureau...at least that I know of. Granted, I don't work the Crimes Against Persons Section, so maybe I'm speaking in error. But my arch-nemesis would be...he might be as hypothetically "boring" as I am.
What the heck would I beat him with? Sure as heck not my guitar. Maybe I should learn to throw things. Sharpen the edges on some of those file folders.
This is why I said I wish, because it so obviously makes no sense.
Eh, it's kinda fun to think about.
