I wouldn't wish this kind of moving on anyone. I'm moving alone and even if someone offered to help (and several have), I don't know how they would do it. This kind of moving is a precision occupation. I am having to be very select since I am limited by what I can pack into my van. And packing will be much like packing a backpack for a long hike. I

The way I would work it, would be to clear out a van sized area of your apartment, and then "load" that first. Then pack the van itself the last few days that you are there, or preferably get some assistance and pack the van right before you leave. If you get at least one person to lend a hand, you can alternate bringing stuff down, while the other person guards the van from the thieving hoards.

I hate moving. It's a huge pain in the arse.

I've sorta done the first part only, with the sparsity of space in my apartment, it's more like a trail about the size of the van if it were squashed together and rolled out like a sausage (sorta like a topology problem - how do you turn a van into a sausage?)

If I pack it the night before, someone will break into it while I sleep, and I'm pretty much alone here so I won't be getting any help loading. I'll probably stop somewhere on the way out and take a nap so it'll be the next morning when I finish the first leg of my journey. That way, i won't fall asleep on the road driving up and my host won't have to wait up for me. It's not very cold down here and I'm bringing my "Snuggie" up front with me so I can sleep warm.
