Insomnia strikes again!

Feb 16, 2016 08:23

I seem to have a habit of pulling an all-nighter and then starting a post at the asscrack of dawn (5am-ish). I really need to work on sticking to a regular sleeping pattern...

I guess the first order of business is that, even though I was an idiot and cleared everything ages ago, this will no longer be a shadow account. InsaneJournal's being a bitch and is too hard for me to use right now, and I've been logged in here a lot more often anyway, since I got into Supernatural and a few other fandoms which are still really big here. Hell, how many am I up to now? Over 40? Whatever it is, they've kept me sane these last few years - more on that later though. I need a break and it's breakfast time anyway

In the meantime, Spirit II was finally finished in 2014! I can't remember exactly when right now, I've been up way too long and 2014 is all a massive blur to me.
22/10/16 Edit: And here I am posting the rest of this, months later...

Spirit II - acrylics on plywood board

I'm not happy with the panther; he started out awesome the first day, then I botched something up a few days later. (Ears maybe? Colour mixing when doing his face? The stonework behind him?) Whatever it was, the poor guy never fully recovered. But I'm not touching this with any tools ever again! My fave painting tutor put it best when I finally set my brushes down for the last time: There's an entire exhibitions worth of work in this painting.

And there would be and entire exhibition worth of paint on that plywood board, - if I hadn't sanded it back down to the primer coat twice. The first time, the texture was getting too rough to paint on with all the repainting I'd done. The second time was because I'd run out of paint and had to switch to using store-bought acrylics. They literally lifted off the previous ones I'd been using, which were hand mixed by one of my last art teachers before I left college (i.e. senior high school,) and I still have no idea what they were made up of. So yeah, I ended up having to sand off half the entire board (basically the large tree, and everything to the right of it.) Then I had to repaint everything all over again, so I could finish that area. I was so ready to throw it in a corner and never look at it again, but I'm glad I didn't - it's been finished and on my wall for over 2 years now and goddamn it looks good!

spirit ii, life, art, random shit
