Failure to Perform to Standards of Society...
(When society keep shifting the rules of the game to suit their own intellectual point if view, in short if you don't fit into their little pigeon hole then you will be judged and found wanting because its the only way they can cope with you)
So I haven't updated here in a long time, mainly because I have had a near suicidal bout of depression (one day it will get me, not that, that bothers me any longer my only hope is that my mother has passed on before it does) and of course that bout of depression has led to a complete withdrawal from life. I tend to come home from work which takes all my energy, shovel drugs down my throat to block out the pain of life and go to bed. And in an odd way I am quiet happy, of course I'm loaded on drugs but hell that is so much better then engaging with society in any meaningful way.
So while in this haze of serotonin uptake balancers a few things got through to me.
First off why is it when Sherlock Holmes both in canon and in visual incarnations insists that he has no interest or time for either sex or love does the fan base and scriptwriters continue to fly in the face of that stated fact and never explore if a human being can live without such things or are they to afraid to believe that it is the conditioning of mothers that make us hanker for a love that is usually deficient in some way. Usually leaving is to compromise on a lesser version of love or deluding ourselves into believing we are experiencing something more earth shattering then it could possible be.
Secondly why is that when confronted by an author telling you of and in some ways showing the genius of a characters intellect such as Sherlock Holmes's why again does the fan base mainly but also others who feel the need to show their intellect and feed their need for meaning in life by writing endless essays cite Holmes as either antisocial or he has not matured. This beggars the question by whose standards?
Yes there are definitions to personality disorders but why were they defined. Simply so someone could put you into a category for understanding, once in there you are less frightening. You are clearly not any less dangerous if that is what you are; but hell now you've got a name if you do go bat shit and blow people away they can say its because of this and name it (of course your still dead, but we can't have everything in life<--by the way, this is sarcasm, I know sometimes people have a little trouble identifying it where I'm concerned, oh and this is a smiley face ;-) I'm assured that these also help and I don't use them enough. Which also makes me wonder why we bother with the English language at all) Anyway back to the point which is pigeon holing so you feel safe and how unsure of themselves Sherlock Holmes character makes readers.
So just as we define personality disorders so we can cope with them, then we have defined Holmes genius as immaturity, arrested development and all the rest of the boys in the band that we call people who basically do not fit in with what we consider as the normal adult persona.
Of course there is no objective definition of normality for human behaviour there is only a majority standard acknowledged by a collective of human beings for the purpose of understanding so they are not disquieted by certain members of society who seem to exist quiet well outside the normal rules that have been defined by the collective known as human beings.
So human beings set the markers and standard for other human beings to fail to fit into then we tell them they don't fit because they might be immature or have something a miss with them that is called whatever you want to call it disorder but there is nothing you can do about it because that is just how your brain is wired. Now perhaps its just me and the drugs I take to make me be able to deal with the human race but that smacks just little of a child in the playground at school telling the new kid they can't be in the gang because they have blue socks and only white socked people can be in the gang...in short you made up the rules and as such they rules can be whatever you say because you're making them up as you go along to suite your own ends.
So why do the collective wish to make Sherlock Holmes conform to what they understand. Is it because they cannot believe that you can live without love in the form of romance or sex because lets face it sex is not just a bodily function that requires little intellect to perform but is EVERYTHING you could ever possible want out of life. So Holmes cannot be disinterested in either and they need to correct this desire by the author to have his character freed from the constraints of the collectives rules. Equally Holmes's intellect must be confined by his arrogance or failure to mature because anyone who has that level of intellect and knows it does not fit into any pigeon hole that the collective have created and thus he becomes the man with no name and everyone knows he was the most dangerous person in story.
I believe that the beauty of Holmes is character is that he wants to live outside of the norm, he doesn't want to like the entire human race he doesn't suffer fools just because the collective have said you must. But most of all it might just be that Holmes sees the world for what it is and the fact that ultimately it has no purpose except self perpetuation, a cog that turns because it must and has next to know other meaning or ultimately end game, the game is afoot but it is never solved and this could be why Holmes disengages.
With the absence of intellect,(I'm as thick as plank of wood) Holmes's possible a character I can identify with more than most human beings I meet. Like Holmes I have more to do with my time the pursue sex or romance. I limit my friends to quality not quantity and thus am loved more satisfyingly then romance can ever give so have no need of the artifice of romance. But there is so much to know and learn, so many great things to read in the world that the trifling of the everyday human disinterest me. Thus I need to be labelled, usually as eccentric sometimes rude often as bitch none of which bother me, because I know that is just the collective making themselves feel safe.
Where as I want to know just what the fuck are we here for and don't get people who don't ask that question and wonder why it never crosses you mind...is all there is?
