Note: I am not insane enough to think this will ever come about - I just like playing with the idea and being creative.
In my dream home, which is nothing like my aunt Kathy's, the place is bursting with color and smells kind of piney and old. Every wooden surface is dark varnished or at least so worn that it's smooth to touch. There are no florescent bulbs or harsh lights except on desks. Surfaces that aren't in use much ( tops of bookshelves, coffee tables, nightstands in corners ) are covered by tie-died or batiked silks in earth and rich peacock tones, then set with lamps and whatever other neato antiques are dug out of back alley shops and various basements.
At least one west-facing window is stained glass in a glory of sun colors. Unless they get to be a bother, I'd love strings of amber and glass beads strung all over the kitchen ceiling with strings of Christmas lights. None of the floors are stone - hardwood everywhere with thick carpets laid down in the bedrooms and living room; the wood itself would need to be varnished in several colors so as to make nice patterns on the floor.
The bathrooms have their own "themes" for each one - a jungle theme for one, adobe for another? Probably those will change on an every four year basis, as they begin to get boring.
Artwork done by family and friends will cover every square inch of the walls in the hallways. Handprints, dinosaurs, you name it. Everybody gets to throw down in the hallways. No dongs.
The kitchen will probably be the most normal looking area, modernly speaking. I like a well-furnished kitchen where I can find and read everything. The countertops can be whatever, as long as they don't show too much dirt and I can clean them easily. Again, utterly unlike my Aunt Kathy's kitchen - there will be a huge map of the Earth for wallpaper in here, and this will probably also be the room where pet seahorses and the one really awesome lionfish are kept. In the corner will be the catfood bowls. Dog bowls go in the garage.
The bedrooms will be comfortable and beautifully colored, but there'll not be any silk. It's hard to clean and I don't like the feel of it when I'm sleeping. Cotton or die. I love blue and white checked quilts and that old country-style look with the clean china design to it, so probably at least one room will be "white" with soft blue tones to it. I'll grow blue and white hydrangea bushes outside just to put some in a vase in this room.
Outside, the house is on the river, with a decent acre of yard sloping gently downward. Or steeply, that's okay, as long as nobody kills themselves. A stone path trails down to a really huge, terrific beech tree right on the water's edge, and then a wooden path curls around the tree up to a treehouse/boat dock, but there's no boat there. I'd rather have a couple of canoes and kayaks, and use the boathouse as a truly fantastic anchor for a rope swing. There'd also be a nice fridge up there for beer and stuff. :D
