i dont mean any offense, but what do we- as a country- have to be thankful for? that another soldier- one of well over one thousand others- has died in an unjust and unnecessary war?
yeah, im not very thankful for that.
to the deceased: much respect and rest in peace. may you finbd ultimate mercy as you pass.
how did this person put his life down for your freedom? no really, think about that and let me know, because thats a genuine question im searching for an answer to rather earnestly. i cant make any sense of this sort of thinking, so if you could explain, that would be nice...
the things you just said are very kind, but that above quote still doesnt make any sense. i think this is a sort of spin that the military uses on patriotic americans... that the dead somehow died to preserve "their freedom", as if that will asuage their blood somehow, as if its a necessary evil for the cause of a greater good...
...which i dont think applies to this situation in iraq at all.
Semantics, I still very much believe whether I agree with the war they died fighting for our country. And I will still respect and thank them for their courage and consideration whether you agree or not.
I do not however this this is the place to start an argument about it.
Do you honestly think your freedom is compromised- for better or worse- by the war in Iraq? Is Iraq making you unfree? Would your life be any worse if we weren't at war there?
Stop being brainwashed into thinking any of these poor soldiers have died "fighting for our country", as I dont see what any of this war in Iraq has to do with "our country" at all.
What do you think? Feel free to continue this on my LJ if you like, as I am genuinely seeking answers, not merely trying to argue.
Graffiti_Sucks, You are being very short-sighted. In the short-term, not fighting the war in Iraq may not be a threat to our future. But what about the next guy who says 'Hey, they got away with it, let's try it again.' The next terrorist that thinks about it is going to know that we will come after him. In 30 years you will probably say 'See, no one else came after us, so why did we need to go to war?' The answer to that is: They didn't come after us BECAUSE we went to war. There's no way to know how much future violence and terrorism we prevent by doing what we are doing, but I can guarantee you that we are preventing future violence. YOUR freedom is guaranteed because we are willing to take the fight to the enemy BEFORE he brings it to us. If you don't believe that, I suggest you move to Iraq or Indonesia for awhile and see what the other side of freedom looks like.
innocent until proven guilty. you cant go around killing potential terrorists just because they *might* be a threatin the future. this logic is so flawed, its not even funny!
Iraq had no plans to commit terrorist acts. Iraq had no plans to attack America. Iraq had no connection whatsoever to 9/11. Al-Qaeda had no presence in Iraq until AFTER the US invaded.
They fight so dirty diapers like you don't have to.caspervidorJanuary 14 2005, 05:23:52 UTC
Simple as that you simpering candy pants. It is because of MEN like this guy, and me--being that I am a Korean war vet--, who ensure your right to act like an idiot. That flag you use to wipe your sniveling little nose; I took a bullet defending it. So you cowards who thrive in the free nation that we men defend--thank your lucky stars that you live in the USA and not under the thumb of some malevolent dictator like the now jailed Sadam.

? Was this directed at me or the other guy?
Just confused because I was the one thanking him. I work for active duty and veterans supporting them everyday, its what makes my job worth it, knowing I'm helping them if only a little.
I totally respect anyone and everyone in the military, their sacrifice and willingness to fight for our country.
We can as a country never thank you or them more for your sacrifice.
Go in peace.

Thats what I'm thankful for, people willing to put their lives down for my freedom.
It saddens me that they died in a war we didn't need to fight and shouldn't be fighting (IMO), but I will still thank them for their dedication.
