For New Year's Eve, I donated blood. And, yet again, had to lie. There's NO medical basis for the prejudice that the bloodbanks still cling to, being gay or bisexual does NOT make you any more likely to have a disease then being strictly straight does. It's time we put a stop to the misinformation they're enforcing on people.

I'm bi. Have always been bi. And have been getting STD tests 1-2 times a year, for as long as I've been sexually active. And I have tested negative for everything but cold sores. Considering the rate of *that* occurring among straight folks (considering I have had those since childhood, especially... Thanks, Mom and Dad...) I can't honestly say my orientation had anything to due with it.

Stop the misinformation. Spread the word. This is a real world problem that needs addressing, and I'm calling y'all out. Help me with this one. Please. People DIE for not getting the transfusions they need. I donate, and lie, because not only do I know I'm clean... I know when it comes to saving a life, it doesn't matter who you are. We're all equal, our blood is all red, and if it will keep someone from losing a loved one... I will continue to lie, as do many others like me. Please sign this petition.

Thank you, and happy New Year to you all.

PS: Anybody else get really thirsty after donating blood? Or am I totally weird?
