So Thursday night/Friday, I watched (and rewatched and re-rewatched and re-re-rewatched and... well you get the idea) the new Critical Role intro with lots of joyful flailing. I also watched (and rewatched once or twice, there wasn't really enough there to watch too many times) the teaser for Dragon Age with anticipatory glee.
And I watched the Avengers 4 trailer and went... meh.
I don't really feel very attached to the MCU fandom anymore, the last movie MCU movie I watched was Black Panther and I didn't get past the second or third ep of Agents of SHIELD. The last Netflix MCU thing I watched was Jessica Jones s2. (And I will watch any future seasons of JJ) I am planning on going to see Captain Marvel (now that trailer made me squee) and if they do end up bringing the X-Men into the MCU I'll probably get drawn back in because X-Men, but beyond that I'm just not really feeling it any more.
I think part of it is I may be emotionally pulling away before they can kill/destroy any of the characters and/or relationships I have latched onto. And partially for the same reason I quit collecting comics, and then quit again after the MCU got me started again. The stories don't feel like about the characters any more so much as the specatcles -- the big multi title epic crossover EVENTS that are all DIRE and UNIVERSE ALTERING all without letting the characters and their own stories and growth have the space to breathe. The MCU movies are starting to feel just like those comic Events (usually every summer and sometimes other seasons as well) with even less (read ANY) downtime between them.
I may watch/read and even enjoy some of these Events, but it's the quieter character moments that make me fannish about stuff. Without them it's just empty popcorn watching fodder.
That being said, I did spend a good portion of this weekend reading through some of the Steve/Tony recs that
destina posted so while I may be meh about current canon, I still have a soft spot for the characters and relationships as interpreted by fandom, so there is that at least.
