i think i like the first theory too. also, if weber's childhood really was that bad, and he really did feel that lonely, it would give the demon an in to get to him in the first place. it wouldn't have gotten to andy or sam because they were loved and cared for as kids - altho we don't get much of an idea of andy's childhood, we can assume it was good or at least not horrible, because he's really a pretty normal guy, aside from the mind control, and he only uses that for little things, and not even on the girl he likes. and we know sam had dad and dean to love and protect him. so the demon couldn't reach them itself because they were stable enough in the head and not alone in the world, whereas if weber's family (even with mom alive) was distant or not emotionally demonstrative or just generally kind of unloving, he'd feel alone and thus give the demon and opening to fuck him up. so, yeah, worse for him (and better for the demon) if mom survives
( ... )
Very deep thinky thoughts - and I am all d'oh! Because the mother and the fire thing didn't occur to me - i was too freaked out over that whole setting-herself-alight scene.
As to Andy - I know everyone likes him - and he was funny. But he's also a bit of a moral vacuum, don't you think? Taking coffee from strangers in the street is one thing, but stealing Dean's car and just abandoning it with the keys in it when he was done - that's kind of low.
And let's not forget the nice blonde lady whose room he left. I'm beting he used the voice to get her into bed - and that's called RAPE.
Not going to argue that there's a slight amorality to Andy but...
From what it looks like, he brought Dean's car back to exactly where he'd taken it so in a way it was giving it back.
And we don't know a) that he slept with the blonde lady and didn't just use her couch or something and b) that if he did sleep with her he used his mind thing to do so. We do know that he never used it on Tracy who was a former girlfriend and he was horrified that he had to when he did. So I'm not ready to jump to the conclusion that he's going around raping women with his power.
Generally he seemed incredibly shocked at the idea of hurting anybody so while he was happy to use his power to make his life easier, the idea of using it to knowingly hurt someone seems like it was repugnant to him.
And we don't know a) that he slept with the blonde lady and didn't just use her couch or something
Well, that's certainly giving him the benefit of the doubt! It was pretty heavily implied, and I guess I just objected to the idea that she was just another perk like free coffee and getting away with not paying his bills.
I just know that Webber gave me a hugely creepy feeling when he told Tracy that the dam was where he brought all his 'ladies' - and if Andy was using his power to get women as well - then that's just as creepy.
And I agree if Andy was doing that it would be damn creepy. I just don't buy that he was doing that because that seems to run contrary to the rest of the way he was portrayed. (Although it's possible it's a case of writers not really thinking through the consequences of what they're setting up.)

Oh well, I'm sure we'll find out eventually. Kripke seems to have definite plans for the demon arc. :)

So I think Andy's plenty flawed already.
